Play On Radio exists to highlight the cultural crossover between modern music and footy. Bringing together an informed, diverse and fresh group of presenters to host a plethora of new shows, and popular podcasts.

Play On Radio launches at a crucial time for footy in Australia, with the AFLW breaking new ground for the game in its first two years. AFL stats showed participation in the sport grew over 10% in 2017, thanks to the inaugural AFLW league, with women making up 30% of the country’s 1.5 million players (a 75% increase in just one year).

With so much growth on the pitch, the need for more diverse and representative pundits on our airwaves feels more necessary than ever. Cue, Play On Radio.

Gemma Bastiani

Gemma Bastiani has been an active and influential voice within the Melbourne music community for some years, having previously managed the The Trotskies, RKDA and Swim Season, and contributed to The AU Review for five years between 2012 and 2017, and taking over the reins as Written Editor of Casual Band Blogger in 2013, until 2016.

In 2017, Gemma established the Australian Jams podcast, now housed under her boutique agency, Riot Expert, which also offers merchandise services and short-term project management to artists. The passionate Melbournite is also the Operations Lead at Pozible, helping fellow creatives to crowd-fund across a number of projects and specialisms. Not content with all that, Gemma has now launched Play On Radio; the new and much-needed voice in footy and music media.

As anyone that follows Gemma on Twitter will know, footy is her other first love. A long-serving Swans fan, Gemma has set out to elevate the missing voice in footy media. Play On Radio marries music with football, offering ‘alternative listening for diehard fans’, whichever team or genre you have odds on.
